Day 2 of the LMA ignited with the co-chairs sharing the 2016 Annual Report which highlighted successes of the local and national chapters’ overall performance. The LMA Award’s Presentation began immediately after which gave public recognition to members of the LMA community for their innovative contributions and thought leadership within the legal industry. There were several award categories including; Your Honor Awards, which recognized excellence in legal marketing, Rising Star Award, which recognized exceptional professionals who are either under 35 or have less than 10 years of experience in the legal marketing or business development world and finally, the Hall of Fame Award celebrated 5 extraordinary legal marketers that have dedicated their careers to Marketing or Business Development in the Legal industries and have a achieved groundbreaking success.
There was a slight program format change on Day 2, as we collectively spent most of the morning in General Sessions before we moved into the Breakout Sessions. The last session of the morning was the General Counsel Panel, who discussed The Rapidly Changing Legal Buying Cycle: What Law firms and Vendors Need to do to Respond. The panel included General Counsels from Cisco, Yahoo, CLOC/NetApps and Petersen-Dean, all who gave valuable insight on what to expect from larger corporations who approach outside legal vendors for work.
Following the General Sessions, there were more networking opportunities and conference giveaways followed by more Breakout Sessions then a power lunch. It was a short day for me (I had to be at the airport by 3) so I was only able to catch 2 sessions. The “S” Word and The MBA Mindset: Strategy, Marketing and Metrics. Both sessions were engaging and full of valuable information provided by panelists with proven track records in success.
After the MBA Mindset session, I had to head to the airport, but I did manage to pick up a book that one of the panelists referenced during her Ted Talk like presentation, the Harvard Business Journal On Emotional Intelligence, for my flight home.
Day 2 was just as successful for me as the day before. Overall, I had a great experience at the LMA Annual Conference, and looking forward to attending next year in New Orleans.
